Alexa Loo is running for third term on City of Richmond Council
My whole life, I have been a competitor, always looking to do things better and be the best I can be. Richmond is a great place to live, work, play and raise a family and I believe we can be even better and I will work to make that happen.
As a Chinese Canadian, I grew up in Richmond feeling safe and included. I want all of our children to feel like they belong and that they are safe and that they are cherished. My father and grandmother grew up with anti-Asian discrimination and I am committed to erasing anti-Asian hate. I will continue to be responsive to instances of hate and work to combat discrimination. I will also work to foster acceptance, understanding and caring among all people. I appreciate the arts and I believe that by coming together to share our various heritages and cultures here in Richmond, we will grow together as a community that understands and cares about each other. I have supported festivals and grants for community groups to share arts and culture. Recently, I was able to attend a concert of traditional Han classical music at the Canadian Flower Winery, which was supported by an Arts and Culture Grant from the City of Richmond. We have great parks, community centres, pools, performance spaces, libraries and playgrounds. As we grow, more can be done to make them even better - true places that will bring people togetheir as one community. We recently opened the Aberdeen park with the updated amenities: public washrooms, play structures, covered areas and a chinese Garden. As a parent, I am always concerned for the safety of my children. That is why I have supported an increase in our police officers and fire fighters, as well as funding the Fox80 - our RCMP/Vancouver Coastal Health partnership to have a mental health car that responds to mental health needs in our community. As a CPA, CA, I understand business and I am concerned that we have good business and job opportunities here so that everyone can be successful. This is why I have been serving on the Richmond Economic Advisory Board and working to find ways that the City can support new and existing businesses to grow and thrive. As an accountant, my eye us always on the bottom line, looking at how our community can be as safe, sustainable, and enjoyable while being affordable and keeping taxes low |
