My Platform

Dear Richmond residents,

It is with great enthusiasm that I reach out to you today to tell you that I am seeking a third term as City Councillor for our City of Richmond.

While campaign season is just beginning, I am fortunate to know many of you already. As both a resident and councillor here, I am proud of my history and familiarity with this fine community. I’m grateful I will stay connected to so many of you, and I’m also excited to establish new relationships with residents and businesspeople working here.

As the municipal election is coming October 15, I wanted to share a bit more about myself and my vision for our city. For me, leadership is all about building an engaged and positive community in which everyone can reach their full potential. This means we each play a part in creating a collaborative and respectful environment. It also means we go the extra mile to support one another, to be kind and to set an example of what it means to be a part of a world-class community. I have every confidence this community shares these ideals, and together we will continue to ensure Richmond is an inspiring place to be. The pandemic has also shown us how much we can accomplish through teamwork, and I believe this collective resilience is one of our biggest strengths as we go forward. The volunteer community in particular has played a crucial role in supporting Richmond residents through these challenging few years. As we look to the future, community engagement and volunteer support will continue to be vital and urgent as we continue to be the best place to work, live and play.

I am excited to continue our work to be the most well managed community that Richmond is known for internationally, and I plan to continue our recent work centered in equity, diversity and inclusion across all our programs. We will continue to make progress on themes of equity, diversity and inclusion that will further strengthen our culture, and I look forward to advancing our efforts on Indigenous reconciliation by meeting commitments and creating an Indigenous Strategy.

I’m also excited to engage our community as we move into the update of our Official Community Plan (OCP). This updated plan will set the stage for liveable, sustainable and creative housing options that will make space for our growing community while addressing climate change. Be sure to register on www.letstalkrichmond.ca and have your voice count. Innovation, equity, and sustainability will be important themes in our upcoming Official Community Plan amendment (OCP) process as well. My hope is that we can all be rejuvenated in our engagement and excitement at being part of the Richmond community.

In the coming days and weeks, there will be opportunities for me to hear about what matters most to you. Communication is the cornerstone of creating a harmonious community. Thank you for your ongoing support for Richmond and our community. I am looking forward to collectively writing the next chapter in Richmond’s story and to seeing what this next phase will bring for our community.

Sincerely,
Alexa
